<p>India reported 43,263 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours on Thursday. According to data updated at 9 a.m. by the Union health ministry, the country&#8217;s total coronavirus tally has risen to 3,31,39,981.</p>

<p>Kerala reported 30,196 new cases in the last 24 hours, accounting for nearly half of all new cases. With 338 more deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll has risen to 4,41,749 people. In the last 24 hours, there have been 2,358 new active cases. The active caseload is 3,93,614, or 1.19 percent of the total number of cases.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Covid curfew in Himachal Pradesh has been extended with several more relaxations till further orders, an official spokesperson said here on Friday. The buses within the state will ply with 50 per cent occupancy and shops will remain open from 9 am to 5 pm from June 14, he added.</p>
<p>The decision to extend the curfew was taken on Friday in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur.</p>
<p>The curfew will continue from 5 pm to 5 am in the state till further orders, the spokesperson added.</p>
<p>Earlier the shops were allowed to open from 9 am to 2 pm, but now they will remain open form 9am to 5pm. However, the shops except those of essential commodities will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays.</p>
<p>The spokeperson said, It was also decided that the offices will function with 50 per cent of staff from Monday.</p>
<p>All the medical colleges, ayurvedic colleges and dental colleges will open from June 23.</p>
<p>Pharmacy and nursing schools will open from June 28.</p>
<p>Now there will be no requirement of RT-PCR negative tests for entering in the state, he concluded.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Delta variant of COVID-19, or the B1.617.2 variant of concern (VOC) first identified in India, is about 60 per cent more transmissible than the Alpha strain identified in the UK and also reduces the effectiveness of vaccines to some extent, UK health experts report on Friday.</p>
<p>New research from Public Health England &#8220;suggests that the Delta variant is associated with an approximately 60 percent increased risk of household transmission&#8221; compared to the Alpha variant identified in Kent, southeast England.</p>
<p>Public Health England (PHE), which has been tracking VOCs on a weekly basis, said that the cases of the Delta VOC have risen by 29,892 to hit 42,323 in the country &#8211; an increase of around 70 per cent.</p>
<p>The latest data also indicates that over 90 per cent of new COVID-19 cases in the UK are now the Delta variant, which continues to show a significantly higher rate of growth compared to the Alpha VOC &#8211; which was first identified in the region of Kent in England and was the dominant variant in the country so far.</p>
<p>The British government said Friday that the new Delta coronavirus variant is 60 percent more transmissible in households than the variant that forced the country to lock down in January.</p>
