]]>While their demands don’t include conducting surgeries, they just want to work as frontline workers. The executive director of NBE, Pawanindra Lal has issued a statement saying, “They are not accustomed to Indian Healthcare problems at all. “

India is the worst-hit nation and soon there might be excessive shortage of frontline workers and it is a complete possibility that we might see patients dying in the ICU since there were no doctors or nurses to look after them. Frontline workers are already overworked right now and it looks like their situation is only going to get worse.
Despite their degrees being recognized by the World Health Organization, they are being made to sit idly.

New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is expected to take a final call on the extension of lockdown on Sunday. While the total shutdown in the national capital is scheduled to end on Monday (May 17), reports claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi might extend the lockdown by another week, i.e, May 24, despite the steep drop in the coronavirus cases and positivity rate.
On April 19, CM Kejriwal had announced a six-day lockdown to break the chain of the coronavirus infection and boost the health system that was about to collapse. The shutdown was later extended thrice to bring the situation under control. Last week Kejriwal extended the lockdown till May 17, saying that any leniency would squander the gains achieved so far in the current wave of the pandemic. The AAP govt had imposed strict measures like suspension of Metro trains and prohibition of wedding ceremonies at public venues.
Earlier, National Delhi Traders Association (NDTA) had requested Kejriwal to lift the lockdown and open markets in a phased manner ‘with strict enforcement of laws’. Speaking to PTI, National Delhi Traders Association (NDTA) president Atul Bhargava said that nobody was in favour of the lockdown since the beginning. “But they had no option since the coronavirus cases in Delhi were rising. However, now we are of the opinion that the government instead of extending lockdown should open the markets in a phased manner with strict enforcement of laws and proper sanitisation”, he added.

Nearly 1.7 million samples (1,693,093 to be exact) were tested for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative testing figures to 313,017,193 , according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
Saturday’s case count is 17,046 less than that of Friday’s when 343,144 people tested positive for the disease. India is severely hit by the deadlier second wave of the pandemic and is reporting a high increase in cases and deaths on a daily basis. This increase has led to a near collapse of the country’s health infrastructure with states and Union territories (UTs) flagging shortage of oxygen supplies, hospital beds, vaccine doses and essential drugs such as Remdesivir and Tocilizumab .
