]]>The incident occurred on Friday night in Nelakanker village, situated under the jurisdiction of the Usur police station. According to police officials, a group of armed Naxalites stormed the village, forcibly dragged out two men, identified as Ravi Kattam (25) and Tirupati Sodhi (38), from their homes, and attacked them with sharp-edged weapons. Both men died at the scene of the attack.
Following the assault, the Naxalites quickly fled the area, leaving the villagers in fear. Local police were immediately notified and have since launched an investigation into the killings.
This attack is part of an ongoing series of Naxalite-related violence targeting villagers in the Bastar division, which includes seven districts, such as Bijapur. The region has seen heightened tensions as Naxalites continue to assert their presence, often targeting local populations.
Just days earlier, on October 14, a BJP worker was also found strangled to death in a similar act of violence, underscoring the growing security challenges in the region.

The complaint of a woman who claimed her husband of having sexual relations with her against her will did not hold up to legal examination, Mumbai Additional Sessions judge Sanjashree J Gharat had said earlier this month.

]]>The review plea has been filed by ministers from West Bengal (Moloy Ghatak), Jharkhand (Rameshwar Oraon), Rajasthan (Raghu Sharma), Chhattisgarh (Amarjeet Bhagat), Punjab (B S Sidhu) and Maharashtra (Uday Ravindra Sawant).
The plea has been filed through advocate Sunil Fernandes.
On Aug 17, the top court had refused to interfere with the conduct of medical and engineering entrance exams — NEET and JEE scheduled to take place in September saying that life must go on and students can’t lose a precious year due to the pandemic.
The apex court had dismissed a plea by one Sayantan Biswas seeking direction to National Testing Agency, which conducts both the NEET and JEE exams, to postpone them and said that there was absolutely” no merit in the plea.

]]>A resident of the city’s Lalpur locality, who was in his sixties, was admitted to AIIMS on August 7 and after finding some behavioral abnormalities, the patient was sent for psychiatric consultancy. The patient allegedly jumped from the window of a bathroom of the second floor of the building and was rushed for emergency treatment, following which, the SHO said, he succumbed to his injuries at around 2 am.
No suicide note has been recovered so far and probe is underway to confirm the reason behind this extreme step. An accidental death report has been registered in this connection. Last week, a COVID-19 patient had allegedly hanged himself inside a toilet at a COVID-19 care centre in Janjgir- Champa district of the state.

]]>“They should have arranged for their movement earlier. They should have taken the states into confidence. There was no arrangement for buses and trains for the workers. People are worried. They want to go back to their home. Some are going on foot and even walking on railway tracks. It is resulting in the death of some as well, which is heart-wrenching,” he said.
On the question of returning migrant workers to his state, Baghel said some of them might have the potential of carrying the deadly virus. “We have done all preparations to deal with it. It is true that thousands of workers and stranded people of Chhattisgarh are coming back to the state. They will come from the red zone and the orange zone. Who all might they meet on the way and get contamination? It is a matter of concern for us. But we have done all preparations for it,” he said.
Baghel said over 16,000 quarantine centers have been made in villages so that these people can be kept there in case of need for 14 days. “We have to manage their food and shelter as well and also for the employment needs after they have completed 14 days’ quarantine. None of the states like Chhattisgarh is trying to runway from its responsibility of providing basic needs to these returning workers,” he said.
The chief minister, however, said if the states do not know about the trains carrying workers started by the Centre, then there are chances of cases of the infection going up. “If we do not know where would people go after coming from trains? If we do not know whether they are clean or carrying the infection? Then there is a possibility of infection cases going up,” he said.
Baghel said the states should have the right to decide on what all activities can be started for reviving the economy and also on the resumption of inter-state road, rail and air services for the passengers. — PTI
