The Prime Minister POSHAN scheme, or PM-POSHAN, was launched on Wednesday by the Centre, which said that it will invest Rs 1,30,795 crore over the next five years to provide one prepared hot meal in government and government-aided schools. The initiative will take the place of the current national program for school lunches, known as the Mid-day Meal Scheme.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) that made the decision.
Students in pre-primary or Balvatikas at government and government-aided primary schools would be eligible for the program. These pupils were previously excluded from the program. Nutritional gardens in schools will also be promoted by the government.

]]>More than 1.2 crore central employees and pensioners have been waiting for the restoration of increased Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for a long time. However, the wait is finally over, as the Central government has reportedly decided to restore the increase in the allowance in a cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (July 14).
Central employees currently get a dearness allowance at the rate of 17 per cent. However, employees will now get a DA at 28 per cent of their basic pay, according to a report.
The central government had earlier increased the dearness allowance by 4 per cent in January 2020, 3 per cent in June 2020 and 4 per cent in January 2021. According to the calculations, the total hike will become 28 per cent (17+4 +3+4).
Apart from central government employees, even central government pensioners and those receiving family pension from the central government will be benefited from the latest decision to hike DA. Therefore, the decision will also hike pensions received.
Dearness Allowance/Dearness Relief is paid to central government employees/pensioners to adjust the cost of living and to protect their basic pay/pension from erosion in the real value. Dear Allowance/Dearness Relief is revised twice a year from January 1 and July 1.
Previously, DA was hiked by the Union Government in October 2019 by 5 per cent. Prior to this, the dearness allowance was at 12%.

Several allegations and complaints are being made via media, journals, NGOs, and individuals that those who are in extreme need of food, vulnerable and weakest sectors of society like street residents, picking rags, hawks, rickshaw pullers, migrant labor, etc., cannot purchase ration cards.
The government delivers subsidized grains, recognized as food-insecure, to about 800 million qualified recipients under the Food Safety Act. They are also eligible for Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana for five kg of free grains.

]]>RBI said in a statement that it would transfer surplus funds of Rs 99,122 crore to the central government. RBI gave the statement on Friday (May 13). These funds are for the tenure of the nine months that ended on March 31 (July 2020- March 2021).
It sis much than anyone’s expectations or the government’s budget. Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman had marked a transfer of Rs 53,511 crore. The transfer of the amount is extremely surprising, but it will also provide a huge breathing space for the government.
The Chief Economist of ICRA, Aditi Nayar said,”The surplus to be transferred by the RBI to the Government of India is considerably higher than the budgeted level. This will offer a buffer to absorb the anticipated losses in indirect tax revenues during May-June, owing to the impact of state lockdowns on consumption on discretionary items and contact-intensive services”.
The RBI took the decision on the basis of the Jalan Committee formula. The committee recommended that the RBI must maintain a contingency risk buffer of 5.5 per cent of its balance sheet, at all times.
Earlier, the RBI transferred Rs 57,128 crore to the government for the accounting year 2019-20.

]]>Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal raised concern about the new strain found in Singapore. The strain is proving dangerous to the children. While giving an argument that it has come as a third wave in India, he requested the centre to take immediate precautions. He also suggested that the flights should be cancelled to and from Singapore as soon as possible.
He tweeted in Hindi,”The new form of Corona that came to Singapore is being said to be extremely dangerous for children, in India it may come as a third wave. My appeal to the central government: 1. Air services with Singapore to be cancelled with immediate effect 2. Priority on vaccine options should be worked out for children too”.
Delhi Chief Minister’s tweet came in the middle of the concerns raised about the third wave of Corona. Many experts say that this is very likely to target the children. At the current time, the first and second wave has hit the elderly and the young at most.
The Principal Scientific Advisor of the government informed that a third wave in ‘inevitable’ and advised that the vaccines must be updated to deal with the new strains.
