]]>According to the declaration, Nitish Kumar holds Rs 20,552 in cash and close to Rs 57,800 deposited across different bank accounts. The state government has made it compulsory for all cabinet ministers to disclose their assets and liabilities at the end of every calendar year in the interest of transparency and public accountability.
The disclosure reveals that the chief minister owns movable assets worth around Rs 17.66 lakh, while his immovable properties are valued at approximately Rs 1.48 crore. His only residential property is a flat located in a cooperative housing society in Dwarka, New Delhi. In 2024, his total declared assets stood at Rs 1.64 crore.
Apart from financial holdings, Nitish Kumar has also declared ownership of ten cows along with thirteen calves. He owns a car valued at Rs 11.32 lakh, as mentioned in the statement submitted to the Cabinet Secretariat Department.
The disclosures further show that several ministers in the Bihar cabinet possess assets exceeding those of the chief minister. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has reported Rs 1.35 lakh in cash, while his wife Kumari Mamta has Rs 35,000 in cash. Choudhary also owns a rifle valued at Rs 4 lakh and immovable assets, including non agricultural land, worth Rs 4.91 crore.
Another Deputy Chief Minister, Vijay Kumar Sinha, has declared immovable assets worth Rs 48.46 lakh and owns a revolver valued at Rs 77,181.
Other cabinet members who have submitted their asset details include Health Minister Mangal Pandey, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Food and Consumer Protection Minister Leshi Singh, Minority Welfare Minister Zama Khan, Social Welfare Minister Madan Sahni, along with Dilip Jaiswal and Ashok Choudhary.

The NDA hopes that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s record and welfare measures—such as 125 units of free electricity, financial aid to over one crore women, and enhanced pensions—will help counter anti-incumbency. The opposition, however, insists that Bihar needs change after two decades of NDA governance. Modi accused the Congress and RJD of disrespecting cultural traditions, citing their remarks about religious events such as the Maha Kumbh and Chhath Puja. This led Mandal to file his candidacy as an Independent.
In addition to Mandal, other expelled leaders include Sanjeev Shyam Singh, a former Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) and candidate for the Gurua assembly seat with Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party, and former minister Himraj Singh, who is contesting independently from Katihar. Maheshwar Prasad Yadav, a former MLA from Gaighat in Muzaffarpur and the 2020 runner-up, has also been expelled after vocal criticism over JD-U’s choice of Komal Singh, a newcomer, as the party’s candidate in his seat.
Earlier expulsions included 11 leaders, such as former minister Shailesh Kumar, who is contesting as an Independent against JD-U’s official candidate in Jamalpur, and ex-MLAs Shyam Bahadur Singh and Sudharshan Kumar. All these leaders were accused of supporting rival candidates and opposing JD-U’s official nominees.
A senior JD-U leader remarked on the expulsions, saying that these individuals were acting against the party’s official candidates and undermining the party’s ideological stance.
