										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Union Minister Narayan Rane was arrested on Tuesday, 24 August, by the Ratnagiri Police and taken into custody from Sangameshwar over his remarks about giving &#8216;a tight slap&#8217; to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, who, Rane had claimed, was ignorant of the year of India&#8217;s Independence.</p>
<p>Earlier, Rane had approached the Bombay High Court, seeking protection from arrest, after two FIRs were filed against him over his remarks.</p>
<p>Rane also sought quashing of the FIRs. Two FIRs were registered against Rane. While one of the complaints was registered in Pune on Tuesday, the other one was filed in Nashik.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, clashes broke out between workers of Shiv Sena, BJP and the police in Mumbai as Shiv Sena workers marched towards Rane&#8217;s residence, news agency ANI reported.</p>
<p>During his Jan Ashirwad Yatra in adjoining Raigad district, Rane had said, &#8220;It is shameful that the chief minister does not know the year of our Independence. He leaned back to enquire about the count of years of independence during his speech. Had I been there, I would have given (him) a tight slap,” news agency PTI reported.</p>
<p>The BJP leader and former Shiv Sena Chief Minister Rane claimed that Thackeray, after forgetting the year of India&#8217;s independence during his 15 August address, had to check the same with his aides in the middle of the speech.</p>
<p>While BJP state president had argued that Narayan Rane being Union minister cannot be arrested by the state, Rane had alleged misuse of power by the MVA government.</p>
<p>Reacting to the news of the FIRs, Rane was earlier quoted as saying:</p>
<p>“I have no information that an FIR has been registered against me. I am not a common man. I have not committed any crime. Is it not a crime if someone doesn&#8217;t know about 15th August? I had said that I would have slapped — these were the words and it&#8217;s not a crime.”</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A 22-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly robbing a person at knife point here in order to give an expensive gift to his girlfriend on her birthday, officials said on Friday.</p>
<p>The accused has been identified as Virat Singh, a resident of Dabri in southwest Delhi, they said.</p>
<p>On the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, an incident of robbery was reported at Dabri police station, where a man alleged that when he was going home and was near Sitapuri bus stand, Dabri, four men robbed his mobile, ₹ 5,500 and his identity card at knife point, a senior police officer said.</p>
<p>He also alleged that one of the accused stabbed him with a knife during the robbery, police said.</p>
<p>On Tuesday, information was received regarding the criminals involved in the incident. Police reached near Gurjar Dairy, Dharmpura, Najafgarh and apprehended Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Santosh Kumar Meena said.</p>
<p>During interrogation, he disclosed that he was working in a call centre in Gurgaon, but he lost his job during lockdown. He wanted to give an expensive gift to his girlfriend on her birthday, police said.</p>
<p>To fulfil their financial requirements, the accused committed the robbery, they said.</p>
<p>One robbed mobile phone was recovered from Singh&#8217;s possession, police said, adding that efforts are being made to nab the other accused persons.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Mumbai police has arrested businessman Raj Kundra, the husband of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, in a case related to alleged creation of pornographic films and publishing them through some apps, a senior official said. The businessman was taken into custody by the Crime Branch on Monday after being booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology (IT) Act, he said. Raj Kundra has been sent to police custody till July 23.</p>
<p>Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale said, “We have arrested Raj Kundra in this case on 19/7/21 as he appears to be the key conspirator of this. We have sufficient evidences regarding this. Investigation is in progress.”</p>
<p>The Property Cell of the Mumbai crime branch had in February this year registered an FIR in connection with the case and arrested nine persons soon after. Kundra’s name came up during the interrogation of the accused, police officers said. Apart from the case by Mumbai police, Kundra’s name had also cropped up in a similar case that had been registered by the Maharashtra Cyber police last year.</p>
