On Saturday (October 25), the IMD reported that the depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal had moved westward and is likely to intensify first into a deep depression by Sunday (October 26) and later into a cyclonic storm by Monday morning (October 27), over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal.
To assess preparedness, Cabinet Secretary T. V. Somanathan convened a meeting of the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC). Senior officials, including the Chief Secretaries of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry, and the Additional Chief Secretary of Odisha, briefed the committee on precautionary actions and evacuation measures being taken in coastal regions expected to be affected by the cyclone.
Authorities have urged residents in low-lying and coastal areas to remain alert and follow official advisories as the system continues to intensify.

In the process, the State also crossed the one-crore mark in the administration of the first dose of the vaccine.
The number was expected to go up further as the vaccination drive was open till late evening in some parts of the state.
The special vaccination drive was undertaken by the state health department on the orders of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

]]>The Union Health Secretary, Rajesh Bhushan sent a letter to the chief secretaries of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha and West Bengal. they are advised to follow the release f the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and plan accordingly. The order also stated that the health ministry is ready to provide all the support necessary for the same.
The guideline issued by the health ministry are:
- Activate health sector incident command system and emergency control room.
- Activate health sector DM plan and the hospital disaster management plan.
- The district surveillance units and public health terms should be reoriented.
- Ensure that health facilities must be stocked with sufficient essential medicines and supplies.
- Medical care and public health interventions must be planned for camps housing evacuated population.
- The major hospitals in the affected districts must be provided with satellite phones or HAM radio connections.
- The funds provided to manage Covid, NHM flexi funds or that available under disaster response fund, therefore may be utilised to bridge the fund requirement.

]]>In large areas, IMD declares a heatwave when the maximum temperature is 45 degrees Celsius for two consecutive days and a severe heatwave is when the mercury touches the 47 degrees-mark for consecutive two days. In small areas, a heatwave is declared if the temperature soars to 45 degrees Celsius even for a day.
Several regions in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and its surrounding regions will experience heatwave conditions during the next 3 days, the IMD said. Meanwhile, the heatwave conditions will continue to grip Saurashtra and Kutch in Gujarat apart from Rajasthan and Maharashtra’s Vidharbha region. The IMD said dust-raising winds, with speed reaching 30-40 kmph, is very likely at isolated places over West Rajasthan on April 5.
The IMD predicted widespread rainfall for Andaman and Nicobar during the next 24 hours. “Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds very likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during next 24 hours and isolated light to moderate rainfall thereafter for subsequent 3-4 days”, the IMD said in its release.
