The post No Data Covid Will Seriously Impact Children In The Future Wave appeared first on The Edge Media.
]]>Dr. Guleria stated during a joint news conference on the COVID-19 situation here that it is a myth that further waves of the COVID-19 pandemic will bring serious disease in youngsters. He stated that 60 to 70% of the children who were sick and were admitted to hospitals during the second wave in India had co-morbidities or inadequate immunity, whereas healthy children recovered with moderate sickness without the need for hospitalization.

]]>The post Plasma Therapy dropped from Clinical Management Guidelines on Covid-19 appeared first on The Edge Media.
]]>This comes in after a meeting of the IMCR National Task Force for Covid-19. All the members were in the favor of removing the use of Convalescent plasma off label. While the previous guidelines allowed the off label use within seven days of the onset of the symptoms, the “revised” guidelines talk against it.
This was considered only after few doctors and scientists wrote a letter to the Principal Scientific Advisor, and IMCR Chief Balram Bhargava and AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria. They pointed out that the current guidelines are not based on the existing evidence. It indicates a possible emergence of variants with lower suspectability to neutralising antibodies in immunosuppresed people given plasma therapy.
The current research shows its ineffectiveness despite which it was prescribed.

]]>Dr. Neeraj Nischal of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) said,”Remdesivir should never be taken at home. Positive attitude and regular exercise are a must for patients in home isolation”.
Dr. Manish, who is also from AIIMS, said that the patient should immediately be admitted as soon as their oxygen level goes below 94. He also added that while checking the oxygen level, the patient’s age and other chronic diseases should also be kept in mind. The doctors also advised that the medications must be taken in the proper quantity and at the right time.
Dr. Neeraj said,”Knowing about the medicine is not enough. Patients should also know how and when they are to be taken, only then would it prove to be beneficial”.

]]>The post Mucormycosis spores are found in soil, air and even in food: AIIMS chief appeared first on The Edge Media.
]]>Dr. Randeep Guleria, AIIMS director warned on Saturday about the cases of mucormycosis infection which is on the rise among various susceptible patients. He added that the major cause for the same is considered to be the misuse of steroids. He said that the patients having diabetes or Covid-19 infection and are taking steroids have a major chance of getting the fungal infection.
The director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Dr. Guleria said that to prevent the spread of the fungal infection, misuse of steroids should be stopped. He also added that the infections that re fungal as well as bacterial are causing more deaths in the recent days including the Covid-19 virus. Thus it becomes more important to follow the protocols of infection control practices at the hospitals.
The AIIMS Chief also said that the spores of the black fungus are found in soil, air as well as food. In the guidelines over black fungus infection, the central government requested people to be extra careful with regard to the infection protocols since the fungus enters the body through any cut, scrape, burn or any type of skin trauma where the skin comes in contact with the fungal spores present in the environment.

]]>The post AIIMS Director Dr. Guleria will take the Corona vaccine himself, to clear all fears appeared first on The Edge Media.
]]>The state has received 9.63 lakh doses of Covishield vaccine and 20,000 doses of Covaxine which have been distributed in all districts. Today, covaxin will be given at six places out of 285 centers in the state. It consists of 4 medical colleges (Mumbai, Aurangabad, Solapur and Nagpur) and 2 district hospitals (Pune and Amravati). From today onwards, vaccination will be done from 9 am to 5 pm every day.
According to the directive issued by the central government, the vaccine is only for people 18 years and above. The second dose should be of the same vaccine in which the first dose was taken, ie interchanging of the vaccine is not allowed. Also, the people handling the vaccine should be separated by a gap of 14 days.
About 3 lakh health workers will be vaccinated on the first day of the vaccination campaign. That is, on the first day, 100 beneficiaries will be vaccinated at all centers. The time of vaccination is from 9 am to 5 pm.

]]>A resident of the city’s Lalpur locality, who was in his sixties, was admitted to AIIMS on August 7 and after finding some behavioral abnormalities, the patient was sent for psychiatric consultancy. The patient allegedly jumped from the window of a bathroom of the second floor of the building and was rushed for emergency treatment, following which, the SHO said, he succumbed to his injuries at around 2 am.
No suicide note has been recovered so far and probe is underway to confirm the reason behind this extreme step. An accidental death report has been registered in this connection. Last week, a COVID-19 patient had allegedly hanged himself inside a toilet at a COVID-19 care centre in Janjgir- Champa district of the state.

]]>“If you look at the data from Southeast Asia, not just India, the mortality rate is much lower than what happened in Italy and Spain or what is happening in the United States,” Dr Guleria said.
India saw a record single-day jump of 40,425 Covid-19 cases, pushing its tally past the 11-lakh mark on Monday, while the total number of recoveries crossed 7 lakh, according to the Union Health Ministry data.
Dr Guleria added that certain areas have hit their peak. “Delhi seems to have done so because the cases have declined significantly. Certain areas have yet to reach the peak. Cases are increasing in certain states. They will reach the peak a little later.”
The death toll due to the disease rose to 27,497 with 681 fatalities reported in one day. The data updated at 8 am on Monday showed that the total number of COVID-19 cases stands at 11,18,043.
India’s COVID-19 tally crossed the 11-lakh mark, just three days after it crossed the 10-lakh mark. There are 3,90,459 active cases in the country, while 7,00,086 people have recovered and one person has migrated. The recovery rate stands at 62.61 percent. The total number of confirmed cases includes foreigners.
