<p>Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid stated in a statement that the organization was in discussions with the government about a peaceful surrender of Kabul. Diplomats have been taken aback by the Afghan government&#8217;s defense; just last week, a US intelligence estimate said Kabul might hold out for at least three months.</p>
