]]>CM reminded P.M Modi that his AAP government had supported the centre on various matters of “national interest” and asked for similar consideration in this case.
“Till date, I have supported you in all the work of national interest, you should also support us for the same. The scheme should be implemented in the whole country during the COVID times. We are ready to do whatever amendments the Central government wants to make to this scheme. I request you with folded hands on behalf of 70 lakh poor people of Delhi, Sir, please do not stop this scheme,” CM Kejriwal wrote in his letter to the Prime Minister.
In his letter to the PM, Kejriwal said the scheme should be implemented across the country in view of COVID-19 otherwise ration shops will act as “super-spreaders”.
Kejriwal had earlier alleged that the doorstep ration delivery scheme announced by his government was unnecessarily stalled by the Centre.
Addressing an online conference CM said “People are distressed that the central government is fighting everyone. If we fight like this how will we tackle Covid – 19.” He also said ” The Delhi government did not require the Centre’s approval for the implementation of the scheme , but it sought permission five times to avoid any dispute.”
The AAP chief pointed out that the scheme will finish the powerful ration mafia in Delhi whom he had fought while working in Delhi’s slums 17 years ago and faced attacks several times.
“If you stand with the ration mafia, who will stand with the poor people,” the chief minister said, adding that the scheme was intended to benefit 72 lakh people in the national capital.
This ration mafia has strong connections which are evident now as they got the doorstep delivery scheme rejected, he said and added that the Delhi government had made all preparations and was going to launch it in a few days.
He said one reason given by the Centre for rejecting the scheme was that a case has been filed by some ration shop owners in the high court. But the court did not stay the scheme and even the central government did not raise any objection there, the chief minister said.
“Even the name of the scheme was changed after the objection of the central government and yet they are saying no approval was sought. How else do you get approval?” he questioned. The chief minister claimed that it was being said by some central government officers that the Delhi government cannot take credit for the scheme by using the ration provided by the Centre.
“I am not doing this for credit. Please allow implementation of doorstep delivery of ration scheme and I will myself tell everyone that it was done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Kejriwal said.
He claimed that this ration does not belong to the BJP or the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) but to the people of the country. He stated “It is the responsibility of both of us that it reaches the people without theft.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal accused ration mafia of influencing the centre’s decision. He disputed claim that his government did not take permission from the centre.

New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is expected to take a final call on the extension of lockdown on Sunday. While the total shutdown in the national capital is scheduled to end on Monday (May 17), reports claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi might extend the lockdown by another week, i.e, May 24, despite the steep drop in the coronavirus cases and positivity rate.
On April 19, CM Kejriwal had announced a six-day lockdown to break the chain of the coronavirus infection and boost the health system that was about to collapse. The shutdown was later extended thrice to bring the situation under control. Last week Kejriwal extended the lockdown till May 17, saying that any leniency would squander the gains achieved so far in the current wave of the pandemic. The AAP govt had imposed strict measures like suspension of Metro trains and prohibition of wedding ceremonies at public venues.
Earlier, National Delhi Traders Association (NDTA) had requested Kejriwal to lift the lockdown and open markets in a phased manner ‘with strict enforcement of laws’. Speaking to PTI, National Delhi Traders Association (NDTA) president Atul Bhargava said that nobody was in favour of the lockdown since the beginning. “But they had no option since the coronavirus cases in Delhi were rising. However, now we are of the opinion that the government instead of extending lockdown should open the markets in a phased manner with strict enforcement of laws and proper sanitisation”, he added.

]]>The spread of Covid in the city has slowed over the past week, with cases dipping to 8,500 on Friday.
“The spread of Covid is reducing slowly. We pray it doesn’t increase again. But if it does, we have readied 500 ICU beds more. In the past 15 days, doctors and engineers have set up 1,000 ICU beds,” the chief minister said.
These beads are being readied in Ramlila Grounds near GTB Hospital and Lok Nayak Hospital.
He also said that the Delhi government is setting up an oxygen concentrator bank in each district, and it will have 200 concentrators each. These concentrators will be sent to people requiring oxygen support at home within two hours.
“If someone has Covid and is under home isolation, they sometimes can’t get oxygen on time. As a result, their condition worsens and they have to be admitted to the ICU. Therefore, getting oxygen on time is very important. We have started this bank for such patients. There will be 200 concentrators in each bank in each district,” he added.

]]>Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal condoled his death.
“Deeply saddened by the untimely demise of former Delhi MLA Sh Jarnail Singh ji. May God bless his soul. He will always be fondly remembered for his contributions to society,” he tweeted.
Singh contested and won the 2015 Assembly elections from Rajouri Garden. He, however, resigned in 2017 and contested from the Lambi seat in Punjab against now Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and former Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal. Badal won the seat.
He had also contested the 2014 Lok Sabha polls from West Delhi, but lost.
Singh did not contest from AAP again and was suspended from the party after an objectionable post was made on his Facebook profile in August last year.
Singh was a journalist and an author, and worked with those who suffered violence during the 1984 riots. He also threw a shoe at former Home Minister P Chidambaram over Congress leaders being given a clean chit in the riots.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia tweeted Friday: “The death of our former colleague at the Delhi Assembly, Jarnail Singh, is saddening for us all. We have lost a strong voice that fought for justice for the families of those who were killed in the 1984 massacre.”
