The post Delhi Erupts in Shock: CM Rekha Gupta Attacked During Jan Sunwai, Attacker Nabbed! appeared first on The Edge Media.
]]>The Shocking Sequence of Events
According to eyewitnesses, the assailant, later identified as Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya, a 41-year-old resident of Rajkot, Gujarat, walked into the camp office disguised as an aggrieved citizen. Carrying a set of documents, he patiently waited for his turn and then approached the Chief Minister.
Within seconds, the situation escalated. After handing over some papers, the accused lunged forward and allegedly slapped the Chief Minister. Chaos erupted inside the office as officials, security guards, and citizens struggled to process what had just happened.
CM Rekha Gupta’s Condition
Sources close to the CM’s office confirmed that Rekha Gupta sustained minor injuries to her hand and head. She was immediately checked by doctors and is now reported to be out of danger but visibly shaken.
“Madam is stable, but the incident has deeply disturbed her. We are reviewing security protocols,” a senior official from the CM’s team said.
Who Is the Attacker?
The accused, Rajesh Sakariya, hails from Rajkot, Gujarat and is known to be an animal lover. Investigators have revealed that he was enraged over a recent Supreme Court order on the relocation of stray dogs in Delhi-NCR.
Officials believe the attack may have been premeditated. Sources claim that Sakariya conducted surveillance near the CM’s residence and camp office for almost 24 hours before striking. A mobile phone recovered from him allegedly contains videos of prior reconnaissance.
Explosive Political Reactions
The attack has ignited a political firestorm. Leaders across party lines have condemned the assault, calling it a direct attack on democracy.
BJP leaders called the incident a cowardly and pre-planned conspiracy, demanding an immediate probe.
AAP spokespersons slammed the security lapses, saying, “If the Chief Minister isn’t safe inside her own office, how can ordinary citizens feel secure?”
Congress leaders expressed solidarity with Gupta, urging the Centre to strengthen VIP security measures.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police and the Ministry of Home Affairs have launched a **high-level investigation** into the matter.
What Comes Next
Sakariya is currently in custody and will be interrogated further to determine whether the attack was a lone-wolf act or part of a larger conspiracy. Investigators are also exploring his political affiliations, mental health records, and any links to activist groups.
Security at the CM’s residence and camp office has been dramatically tightened, with additional paramilitary forces deployed in and around Civil Lines.

The BJP criticized Arvind Kejriwal for ‘starving local bodies’ of finances on Friday. Aadesh Gupta, the Delhi unit chairman, and Smriti Irani, a federal minister, alleged the Kejriwal government owed civic entities in the centre of the country $13,000 crore. “Kejriwal is depriving local bodies of finances, which is undermining democracy at the roots,” Smriti Irani remarked.

]]>The party held its national council’s annual meeting on Saturday, when a 34-member executive council was elected. Sunday, it held the first meeting of the newly-elected executive council. Both meetings were held through a video conference facility.
The decision comes at a time when the party is expanding its wings beyond the national capital and preparing for assembly elections in six states – Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Goa and Gujarat – in the next two years. Delhi also goes to the municipal polls next year with the three civic bodies in the city currently ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Earlier this year, the AAP won 27 seats in the municipal polls in Gujarat’s Surat. It continues to be the ruling party in Delhi, having won 62 out of 70 assembly constituencies in the February 2020 assembly polls. It is also the principal opposition party in Punjab.
In January this year, the party held its previous national council meeting, which was delayed because of the Covid-19 pandemic. In that meeting, it passed resolutions extending tenures for the posts of national convenor and secretary from three years to five years, and removed a provision which prohibited re-election of the same person in these posts for more than two consecutive terms.

We have been monitoring the situation,” the Delhi CM had said.
On August 6, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal had asked officials to set up an expert panel to deliberate the reopening of schools in the national Capital.
