Speaking to reporters, Singh said Captain Sumit Kapoor, who was piloting the aircraft, had logged nearly 16,000 flying hours and was regarded as an instructor and examiner-level pilot. He described Kapoor as extremely seasoned, with prior experience flying for Sahara Airlines, Jetlite, and Jet Airways, and with substantial familiarity operating the Learjet 45.
All five occupants of the aircraft lost their lives in the crash. Singh expressed deep personal grief, noting that co-pilot Captain Shambhavi Pathak, who also died in the incident, was like a daughter to him. Both pilots were based in Delhi, he added.
According to Singh, preliminary indications suggest that Captain Kapoor could not visually acquire the runway while approaching for landing. In such situations, pilots are trained to execute a missed approach, also known as a go-around, if they are not fully confident about completing a safe landing. A missed approach is a standardised manoeuvre performed during instrument landings when conditions such as low visibility prevent a safe touchdown.
Responding to questions about the safety of the remaining aircraft in the company’s fleet, Singh said there was no requirement to ground them, asserting that the Learjet 45 is a dependable aircraft and that the fleet remains in good condition. He also addressed a previous incident involving one of the company’s aircraft at Mumbai airport in 2023, stating that heavy rain and poor visibility had caused the aircraft to skid after landing.
VSR Ventures, through its aviation arm VSR Aviation, operates private aircraft primarily for corporate travellers and clients requiring access to destinations not served by commercial airlines. As per a statement from the Civil Aviation Ministry, VSR Ventures is a Non-Scheduled Operator holding Permit No 07/2014. The company’s fleet includes seven Learjet 45 aircraft, five Embraer 135BJ aircraft, four King Air B200 aircraft, and one Pilatus PC-12 aircraft.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing, and authorities are expected to analyse flight data and weather conditions to establish the precise sequence of events leading up to the accident.

The findings showed that lightning strikes create rapid fluctuations in the ionosphere’s Total Electron Content (TEC), which directly affects GPS signal accuracy.
The study further observed that within just 2 to 35 minutes of intense lightning activity, significant variations occur in ionospheric electron density. During this period, mobile phone GPS systems are most likely to provide incorrect location data, causing navigation errors for users.
Scientists concluded that understanding these atmospheric disturbances is essential for improving the reliability of GPS systems, especially in countries like India where lightning incidents are frequent.

Despite the surge in usage, India’s contribution to global in app purchase revenues remained minimal at less than 1%. This trend suggests that most AI app developers continue to offer free services to users in the Indian market. Globally, AI applications generated revenues worth 5 billion dollars in 2025, with India’s share staying below 1%, similar to levels seen in 2024.
The growth momentum in India was particularly strong, with AI app downloads rising by 204% compared to the previous year. Revenue generated by these applications in India also increased by 240% during the same period, although the overall revenue base continues to be relatively small.
In terms of user engagement, Indian consumers spent nearly 6 billion hours on generative AI applications in 2025. This accounted for 12.6% of the total 48 billion hours spent globally on such apps, reflecting India’s growing influence in the global AI usage landscape.

]]>The action comes amid increasing pressure on Grok from regulators across the world, as governments intensify scrutiny of generative artificial intelligence tools over content moderation failures, data safety concerns and the spread of non consensual sexually explicit images that have appeared on X in recent days.
According to government sources, X accepted its mistake and informed the authorities that corrective measures have been taken. The platform has blocked thousands of objectionable posts and removed hundreds of accounts, while also assuring that such obscene imagery will not be allowed in the future.
Earlier, X had stated through its Safety handle that it takes action against illegal content on its platform, including child sexual abuse material, by removing such content, permanently suspending accounts and cooperating with law enforcement agencies when required. The platform had also said that users prompting Grok to generate illegal content would face the same consequences as those directly uploading such material.
X has faced strong backlash globally over the misuse of Grok for creating digitally manipulated and sexually explicit images through user prompts. Governments in Europe and Asia have warned the platform of consequences if it fails to adhere to online safety norms, while public calls for strict action against both X and Grok have intensified.
On January 2, the IT Ministry issued a directive to X, asking it to immediately remove all vulgar, obscene and unlawful content generated through Grok or face legal action. The ministry also sought a detailed action taken report within 72 hours, outlining technical and organisational safeguards, the role of the Chief Compliance Officer, action against offending users and mechanisms to ensure compliance with Indian laws.
The ministry noted that Grok AI, developed by X and integrated into the platform, was being misused to create fake accounts and generate obscene images and videos of women in a derogatory manner. It added that even genuine images uploaded by women were being targeted through prompts, image manipulation and synthetic outputs, reflecting a serious failure of platform level safeguards and enforcement.
The government made it clear that compliance with the IT Act and related rules is mandatory and that the safe harbour protection under Section 79 of the IT Act is conditional on strict adherence to due diligence obligations. Authorities warned that failure to comply could result in the loss of legal immunity and invite action under the IT Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
X was directed to strictly enforce its user terms and AI usage restrictions, including imposing deterrent measures such as suspension and termination of violating accounts. It was also asked to remove or disable access to unlawful content without delay, in line with timelines prescribed under the IT Rules, 2021, while preserving evidence.
While X initially responded with a detailed reply reiterating its respect for Indian laws and guidelines, the government felt the response lacked crucial information, including specific takedown details and concrete steps taken to address and prevent the misuse of Grok. This prompted the authorities to seek further clarification and stronger action.
X has now conveyed to the government that it has accepted the concerns and will comply with Indian regulations, sources said.
Beyond India, the issue has drawn attention in the United Kingdom and the European Union. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the misuse of AI generated imagery as disturbing, while the European Commission has reportedly asked X to preserve documents related to Grok. The UK communications regulator Ofcom said it has sought urgent clarification from X and xAI regarding steps taken to meet legal obligations to protect users and added that it would assess whether a formal investigation is required.
Meanwhile, three Democratic senators in the United States have urged Apple and Google to suspend X and Grok from their app stores, alleging violations of platform terms of service.

As it looks to expand further, Netflix is increasingly resembling the legacy media companies it once disrupted. The company has introduced advertising supported plans and entered live sports content. Its co chief executive officer Ted Sarandos has also emerged as a central figure in a dramatic merger battle unfolding in Hollywood.
Paramount Skydance, a studio group with 29 billion dollars in revenue in 2024 and known for films like Titanic, Forrest Gump and the Mission Impossible franchise, had made three unsuccessful attempts by October 2025 to acquire Warner Bros Discovery.
The final bid stood at 58 billion dollars. Netflix then entered the race, announcing a deal on December 5 to acquire Warner Bros Discovery for 83 billion dollars. Just days later, Paramount escalated the contest with a hostile bid valued at 108 billion dollars.
Warner Bros Discovery generated more than 39 billion dollars in revenue in 2024 and owns some of the most valuable assets in global entertainment. Its television studios have produced hits such as The Big Bang Theory, while its film divisions are behind franchises including Harry Potter,
The Lord of the Rings and Barbie. For Netflix, the crown jewel may be HBO Max, home to globally successful shows like Game of Thrones and The White Lotus. HBO Max alone has about 128 million subscribers, making it a highly attractive acquisition target.
Analysts point out that Netflix’s offer values Warner’s projected 2026 earnings from streaming and films at about 25 times Ebitda, while Paramount’s bid pushes that multiple even higher. By comparison, Disney trades at roughly 11 times its earnings. This sharp premium has raised questions across the industry, not about the logic of consolidation but about whether the price can be justified.
Past media mergers over the last two decades have often failed to deliver promised synergies, instead eroding brands and shareholder value due to cultural mismatches.
If Netflix succeeds, it is expected to take on nearly 59 billion dollars in debt. Paramount would also need to raise massive capital if its bid prevails. Critics argue that both companies could create new intellectual property and expand organically at far lower cost, even if acquisitions promise faster scale.
At its core, this contest reflects a battle for survival. As traditional television revenues decline and artificial intelligence reshapes content creation and distribution, only companies with massive scale are likely to endure. Streaming and the internet initially broadened opportunities for niche content, but they have also concentrated audience attention around a handful of dominant platforms.
Today, global media power lies with companies that control distribution and discovery, including Google through YouTube, Meta via Facebook and Instagram, Amazon with Prime Video and Apple with its ecosystem.
Success increasingly depends on owning vast libraries of content and sophisticated technology to surface and monetise it across borders and formats.
In this environment, Netflix and Paramount are chasing size to stay competitive. A combined Netflix and Warner Bros Discovery entity would generate an estimated 70 billion dollars in revenue, while a Paramount Warner combination could reach around 79 billion dollars. Either would surpass YouTube’s estimated 61 billion dollars and Disney’s roughly 58 billion dollars from comparable businesses.
The unfolding merger drama underscores a defining moment for the global entertainment industry, where scale, technology and content ownership will decide which players remain standing.

In recent months, cases of GPS spoofing and interference have been reported at major Indian airports such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Amritsar, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai.
Speaking during interactions in Geneva this week, IATA Director General Willie Walsh said incidents of GPS spoofing and jamming have increased sharply across the world. He stressed that the scale of the rise requires pilots to be far more alert during operations, as the issue is no longer confined to a few regions.
GPS or Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) spoofing and jamming involve attempts to disrupt or manipulate navigation systems by transmitting false or misleading signals. The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) categorises GNSS spoofing as a form of International Radio Frequency Interference.
Nick Careen, IATA’s Senior Vice President for Operations, Safety and Security, noted that such incidents were initially concentrated in the Middle East and later intensified in Eastern Europe following the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He added that similar cases are now being reported in India, other parts of Asia and even regions such as Venezuela.
Data compiled by IATA shows that the GPS loss rate, measured as the number of GPS signal loss events per 1,000 flights, has risen steadily over the years. The rate stood at 31 in 2022, increased to 56 in 2024 and is projected to reach 59 in 2025. These figures are based on information from the Flight Data eXchange database, part of IATA’s Global Aviation Data Management programme.
Careen described the upward trend as notable and concerning, pointing out that the increase cannot be explained merely by higher flight volumes. He emphasised that GPS interference is becoming more frequent and poses evolving safety challenges for airlines.
According to IATA, data-driven tools such as the Flight Data eXchange are critical in helping airlines assess and mitigate safety risks. Careen also clarified that civil aviation is typically not the intended target of such interference, but often becomes an unintended bystander due to military activities around conflict zones.
He added that improved coordination, communication and resilient systems can help manage the risks. While raising awareness remains a priority, Careen said the issue would not deter him personally from flying.
Meanwhile, India’s civil aviation ministry informed the Lok Sabha this week that 1,951 cases of GPS interference affecting aircraft have been reported since November 2023. Formal reporting of such incidents began after the Directorate General of Civil Aviation issued an advisory circular on GNSS interference in airspace.

The user tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and Ram Mohan Naidu, while urging authorities to intervene.
Across multiple airports, numerous IndiGo flights faced delays as the airline struggled with a shortage of available crew. A spokesperson for IndiGo acknowledged the disruptions and explained that unavoidable delays and cancellations were caused by a combination of technology issues, congestion at airports, and operational demands.
In a statement on X, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport confirmed that certain IndiGo flights were affected by the airline’s internal challenges. The airport advised passengers to contact IndiGo’s customer support for updated information, while maintaining that overall airport operations remained normal.
