Social Media, OTT Guidelines: Government does not know, how many news portals in the country

The central government on Thursday released new guidelines for social media and over-the-top (OTT) platforms. The new guidelines will cover social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hotstar. Union Ministers Prakash Javadekar and Ravi Shankar Prasad announced the guidelines for social media and OTT platforms at a press conference on Thursday. During this, in response to a question, Javadekar said that we do not have information about how many news portals are operating in the country.Union Ministers Prakash Javadekar and Ravi Shankar Prasad were giving information about new guidelines for social media and OTT. Then he was asked if a law will come for a news portal in the country as well. How many news portals are there in the country? In response to this question, Javadekar said that this is a very good question. So far, the central government has no information about how many news portals are operating in the country. However he further said that work is being done on it. The law making process for the news portal is also going on. But right now we do not have the number of news portals in reality.According to the new guidelines, social media companies will have to hire an officer for the complaints of the users and also mention its name. Any user complaint will have to be processed within 24 hours. Her complaint will have to be resolved within 15 days. If there is a complaint in cases of nudity, the content will have to be removed within 24 hours.
