Declining employment due to corona may deepen worldwide environmental crisis, International Energy Agency expresses concern

The impact of the decline in the world economy due to Corona is still being seen. Amid this loss, people were getting some relief from the same news. That is because of Corona, the air pollution in the whole world was greatly reduced. Significant reduction in pollution levels was recorded due to economic activities, shutdown of industrial units, stoppage of factories and stoppage of vehicular traffic.
But the International Energy Agency has expressed concern that this increase in the Corona period may weaken. The biggest reason for this is that the poverty of the people has increased in the Corona period. Those who have lost jobs may turn to traditional energy sources. This may increase environmental pollution all over the world.
In fact, before the arrival of the Corona epidemic, it was expected that due to the rapid growth of economic activity in India, energy could increase by 50 percent by 2030 compared to 2019. The Indian government is continuously promoting solar energy and its share in the total energy consumption of the country is continuously increasing. The result of this is that India was better off carrying out its concern about the world environment. It was appreciated all over the world.

But it is feared that due to the recession caused by the Corona period, the country’s economy may decline drastically. Due to this, the crisis on people’s jobs can continue. The unemployment rate in the country reached a record level during the Corona period. Poor, working class people were more among those who lost jobs. The recovery in employment rate has also not happened at the expected level.

In view of this loss, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has expressed concern that people from lower strata may turn to traditional sources for domestic energy due to the jobs crisis. In a country like India, people can turn to wood, dams instead of using gas for energy needs. This can cause harm to the world environment.
Former Secretary of Energy Terry Senior Fellow Ajay Shankar told Amar Ujala that the government should consider increasing the gas subsidy to this category to tackle such a crisis. India has rapidly increased its clean fuel capacity. This edge must be saved in some way. For this, it is also necessary to control the prices of gas.
