Twitter has taken this decision for fear of possible arrest of high officials of its company and financial penalty.Twitter has now started to block government-marked accounts that post flammable and divisive posts. According to sources, the US micro-blogging company has been under pressure for the past few days, as several posts were being made on Twitter with the hashtag #ModiPlanningFarmerGenocide.Following pressure from the central government, Twitter assured the government that it is monitoring the issue, overseeing the list of such accounts sent by the Ministry of Information and Technology under Section 69A of the IT Act. And is collecting those posts from those handles. So far 709 accounts have been deactivated. Sources said that there are 257 Twitter handles which posted with the hashtag #ModiPlanningFarmerGenocide, 126 of these accounts have been blocked just a few days ago. In addition, the government suspects that 1,178 handles are linked to Khalistani, Pakistani elements who disseminate misinformation, 583 such accounts have been blocked. Under Section 69A (3) of the IT Act, Twitter’s top officials were warned that they could face up to seven years in prison.Let us know that Twitter has its own separate policy to monitor content, but after pressure from the government, the company has to block those accounts, which the government has called objectionable.
