Two Indian High Commission staffers have gone missing in Pakistan’s Islamabad on Monday, confirmed sources. The two staffers have been missing for several hours.

Sources also say that the Indian government has taken up the matter with concerned Pakistan authorities.

A spokesperson for the High Commission of India, Islamabad, said, “Two Indian High Commission officials are missing since morning while on official work. The matter has been taken up with the Pakistani authorities.”

Both the Indian High Commission staffers were CISF drivers and were out on duty in Islamabad. However, they did not reach their destination. The mission officials tried to establish contact but the two were not reachable.

Commenting on the report, former Indian diplomat Sharat Sabarwal slammed Pakistan for not observing the code of conduct.

Defence expert Ak Singh also criticised Pakistan and said this is not the first time such an incident has occurred. He went on to say that Pakistan is a “rogue state”.

The fresh incident comes days after India had expelled two Pakistan High Commission officials in Delhi after they were charged with espionage. The two expelled Pakistani officials worked with the visa section of the high commission in the national capital.

India had also expelled the driver of the expelled Pakistani operatives, Abid Hussain and Muhammad Tahir, as he was also involved in the spy ring.

Javed Hussain, the driver, told Indian agencies that he used to drive both of them in and around the national capital.

Ever since India expelled the Pakistan operatives, Islamabad has registered strong protest and even summoned the Indian envoy to express dissatisfaction. Recently, an Indian diplomat was also harassed in Pakistan by men associated with ISI.
