Actor Mrunal Thakur has teamed up with Telugu star Adivi Sesh for the upcoming romantic action drama Dacoit, a film designed as a bilingual project and shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi. The Hindi version has been titled Dacoit Ek Prem Katha, a name that places it in line with romance centric films that highlight love as the emotional core of the story.
Speaking at the Hindi launch event in Mumbai, Mrunal said the film marks a significant milestone in her career as it is her first project shot in both Hindi and Telugu. She described Dacoit as a very different experience, adding that after Love Sonia, this is the film where she truly got the opportunity to explore multiple shades of a character.
In the film, Adivi Sesh plays the role of a thief named Hari who falls in love with Mrunal’s character. Her arc follows a powerful transformation, evolving from a warm and endearing young woman into a fierce, revenge driven figure. The teaser hints at a dark and intense world shaped by crime, vengeance and strong emotions.
The launch event reflected the film’s tone, with the lead pair making a dramatic entry on stage wearing black scarves that partially covered their faces, echoing the gritty nature of their on screen personas. Mrunal also clarified that Sesh is Adivi Sesh’s first name, addressing a common misconception among fans.
The event also saw the presence of Anurag Kashyap, who steps away from directing duties to portray a formidable antagonist in the film. His character is shown relentlessly pursuing the protagonists, adding another layer of tension to the narrative.
Producer Shaneil described Dacoit as a pain filled love story, calling Sesh the fire and Mrunal the soul that together power the film’s emotional journey. Sesh shared that his association with Shaneil goes back many years, recalling that they grew up together in San Francisco before eventually finding their way into the Telugu film industry. He jokingly pointed out the bilingual nature of the project, noting that Shaneil does not speak Telugu and he himself is not fluent in Hindi.
Addressing questions about his earlier film Nishaanchi and its box office outcome, Anurag Kashyap said he has grown accustomed to such situations. He explained that when expectations were not fully met, the makers decided to bring both parts together for an OTT release, adding that the film being backed by Amazon gave him confidence in the decision.
Adivi Sesh also reflected on facing competition from major releases in the past, including 2022 when Major released alongside big budget films. He remarked that while there may be many big players in the industry, smaller films with heart still have their own value, likening themselves to goldfish that stand out despite the odds.
