Priyanka Gandhi Hits Back at BJP Over Criticism of Rahul Gandhi’s Upcoming Visit to Germany

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra responded to the BJP’s criticism of Rahul Gandhi’s planned visit to Germany, questioning why the opposition party is targeting the Leader of Opposition (LoP) while Prime Minister Narendra Modi regularly spends a significant amount of his working hours abroad.

Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit Germany from December 15 to 20, where he will interact with the Indian diaspora and hold discussions with German ministers, according to the Indian Overseas Congress.

The BJP criticized Rahul Gandhi over the trip, with spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla mocking his foreign visit on social media. Poonawalla remarked, “Once again Videsh Nayak is doing what he does best—going for a foreign tour! Parliament will be in session until December 19, but reports suggest Rahul Gandhi will be in Germany from December 15 to 20. Rahul is LoP — leader of Paryatan (tourism).”

He further recalled that during the Bihar elections, Gandhi was also abroad and later went on a jungle safari, implying a pattern of foreign distractions.

In response, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra defended her brother, stating, “Modi ji spends almost half of his working time outside the country. Why is there a question being raised about the Leader of Opposition travelling?” She questioned the BJP’s double standards on foreign visits, pointing out that the Prime Minister’s frequent trips abroad seem to be overlooked.

Earlier, Balwinder Singh, president of the Indian Overseas Congress in Germany, confirmed Rahul Gandhi’s trip, saying, “The Member of Parliament and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, will visit Germany from December 15 to 20. He will be accompanied by Indian Overseas Congress Chairperson Sam Pitroda.”

This back-and-forth between Congress and BJP underscores the ongoing political tension and contrasting approaches to foreign engagements by India’s top political figures.
