India and Australia put out an ambitious defense framework on Saturday in a high-level foreign and defense ministerial conversation, with Afghanistan as a prominent topic of discussion.

The two countries also discussed the significant challenges facing the Indo-Pacific and deliberated on future collaboration in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic during the inaugural ‘two-plus-two talks between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and their Australian counterparts Marise Payne and Peter Dutton, respectively.

Acknowledging that terrorism is a major threat to both sides, Dutton said that “Australia-India defense relationship is at a historic high.”
