18 killed in road mishap in UP’s Barabanki

18 people are killed and 25 others injured when a truck collided with a stranded bus full of labourers in the Barabanki district of central Uttar Pradesh today. The injured were rushed to hospital and rescue work is in process,

The police report said that the accident was reported on National Highway 28. A double-decker bus was parked on the roadside following a breakdown. The bus was travelling from Ludhiana to Bihar. Eighteen labourers, who were standing near the bus on the roadside, were killed due to the impact of the accident. SN Sabat the ADG, Lucknow Zone said,  “A truck rammed a bus near Ram Sanehi Ghat In Barabanki, late last night. 18 passengers of the bus have lost their lives and over 20 are reported to be injured. The injured have been admitted to the hospital for medical treatment. The additional force has been sent to the spot to undertake rescue work.”

Prime minister Narendra Modo conveyed his condolences and declared an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 Lakh each for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 each for the kin of the injured. The Prime Minister took to his official Twitter handle and wrote, “PM @narendramodi announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each from Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the tragic accident in Barabanki. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000 each,”

Uttar Pradesh Additional Home Secretary (ACS) further said, “The Prime Minister has spoken to the chief minister to know about the road accident in Barabanki. The chief minister has also expressed his condolences and directed the DM SP Barabanki to provide the best medical care to the injured and to provide arrangements to take the passengers to their destinations,”

Many other renowned political leaders also took to their Twitter handle and conveyed grief. The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Adityanath wrote, “The death of people in a road accident in Ram Sanehi Ghat area of district Barabanki is very sad. My condolences are with the bereaved family. Praying to Lord Shri Ram to grant the departed souls a place at his feet and speedy recovery to the injured,”

However, Home Minister Amit Shah wrote,  “The road accident in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh is very sad. I express my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this. The local administration is engaged in providing all possible help and treatment to the injured. I pray to God for the speedy recovery of the injured,”
