Jairam Thakur, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh urges the tourists to follow all Covid-19 protocols. The chief minister quoted by ANI,  “We are concerned about the number of tourists coming to the state. They are welcome here but I appeal to them to follow Covid-19 norms,”

The chief minister further said that this is a crucial time to save the tourism industry. In a virtual meeting with district officials, the CM underlined the fact that the pandemic is not over yet. Thakur further said, “Hotels are being asked to follow SOPs,”

Earlier, some pictures and videos circulated all around the social media platforms showed a gross violation of Covid-19 protocols. Most people were seen without a mask and also defying physical distancing norms. The instances of overcrowding have led to fears that the upcoming third of the pandemic in the country might be more severe than earlier imagined. Yesterday, tourists in Himachal Pradesh were seen without masks.

The Union Ministry of Family Welfare’s report suggests,  so far recorded 203,245 cases and 3,486 fatalities due to Covid-19. The number of recovered people are 99,000 while the active cases stand at 1,307. Vaccination is currently suspended for beneficiaries between 18-45 years, which poses a risk of a massive spike in cases amid the overcrowding in tourist spots in the state.
